The George Hotel in Christchurch has embarked on a new partnership with Christchurch Helicopters to sponsor Flight Path – a fundraising programme, and experience, that supports the critically-endangered orange-fronted kākāriki karaka– a small, native parrot that lives ‘locally’ in the foothills and valleys of the Southern Alps and is New Zealand’s rarest forest bird.
The experience includes a helicopter flight over the Canterbury Plains toward the Southern Alps, before touching down in a secluded valley to enjoy a picnic lunch. Visitors are accompanied by a special guide who provides insight into the rare bird and the extensive conservation work undertaken to help it survive and thrive.
The partnership sees a percentage of every flight donated to the recovery program.
