Case study - R Tucker Thompson
Ten years ago Ryan Sanders was motivated to start a tourism business to escape a dull corporate job. The business hasn't looked back, and is on track to turn over $17 million in the next 12 months.
The R. Tucker Thompson had a mighty reputation, but the organisation was stuck in a rut. So they implemented a plan which has put it in a strong position as a sustainable tourism operator and a recognised social enterprise.
Ngāti Porou and Air New Zealand have signed a Partnership Agreement aimed at generating further economic and social growth in Tairāwhiti Gisborne, with tourism development a priority.
Welcoming, supportive communities are a vital part of what New Zealand has to offer our visitors. TIA's 'Tourism Story' project aims to find ways to support all sectors of the industry to tell their stories better, from the small town holiday park providing local employment opportunities and supporting local suppliers, to the big corporate donating thousands of dollars to environmental causes.
