Queenstown-based Shotover Jet, a Ngai Tahu Tourism company, has exhibited a new sustainable jetboat to the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, and the Minister of Tourism, Kelvin Davis.
“We are incredibly proud of this innovative jet boat, which is Shotover Jet’s fastest ever design," says Quinton Hall, Chief Executive of Ngai Tahu Tourism.
“T10 was designed by our team in New Zealand and we have tried to source as much of it as possible through New Zealand suppliers and manufacturers, with the new design making it more fuel efficient and the aluminium shell keeping it light and recyclable.
“Supporting local business is incredibly important to Ngāi Tahu Tourism, along with our sustainability values. We wanted this boat to be an industry example for sustainability and kiwi ingenuity."
Ngai Tahu also announced a new marine mechanic apprenticeship at Shotover Jet for Ngai Tahu iwi members. Applications open on Monday 9th April for the new apprenticeship.
